Shima

SHIMA is a DJ, producer, and songwriter from Tokyo, Japan. At age 14, she began her career as a J-pop singer after being scouted by a major label, and performed in a girl group while attending school full-time. Ultimately deciding that the commercial pop world was not for her, she moved to the United States at age 18 to study Music & Computer Engineering. During this time, she began to produce and write her own music as well as produce for her artist friends. After graduating University, she continued to make music in her free time while working full-time as a software developer. She quietly developed her craft and unique “sound” as an artist while saving up enough money to eventually quit her job and pursue music full-time. Three years in the making, her debut album “Welcome to SHIMAJIMA” via Young Art Records is the first look into a meticulously crafted artist project that extends beyond the music. A truly innovative blend of modern electronic dance music with elements of traditional Japanese folk music and culture, this meticulously crafted concept album is a showcase of high-level musicianship, razor-sharp vision, and contagious passion of an artist set free.
