CA Month – Andy “Bean” David: “My team has become my second family.”

Welcome back to our Crew Appreciation series. It takes a community of dedicated, passionate individuals to help create the magic of Shambhala. We are so fortunate to host talented crew members from across the globe as we all come together on the Farm to turn dreams into reality. Over the next few weeks, we will be featuring influential members from various teams on the Farm. Today we feature Andy “Bean” David.

Andy “Bean” David

“Real World” job: Semi-Retired Electrician
Shambhala Job: Team Fractal, Pyramid Stagekeeper
Shambhala Spirit Animal: It changes every year
Favorite Snack on the Farm: Hasn’t missed his yearly Poutine from the same vendor in 9 years
Favorite Shambhala DJ Set: Stickybuds in the Fractal Forest–every year for the past 9 years!

SMF: What made you want to join the SMF crew?

ABD: I saw an ad in the local paper. There are many reasons I decided to join and a big part of why I keep coming back is for the social aspect of it. Team Fractal have become my second family!

SMF: What does being part of the SMF team mean to you? What has it taught you?

ABD: Teamwork. People helping each other for every ones well being. I may be one of the older staff but my age seems to disappear when I’m on the farm. There is a great feeling of freedom to be who you are without being judged by society. Shambhala has taught me that not everyone will condemn you for being different from the norm–in fact, some people will celebrate you for it!

SMF: What’s your Shambhala Story?

ABD: I started in production but it was over-staffed so my job ended up helping wherever I was needed. This position later ended up becoming the “Anything Goes” department. One day, I ended up manning the gatekeeper position at Pyramid in Fractal Forest and I ended up refusing to entry the stage director, Rich-E-Rich, when he didn’t have his Pyramid Pass. He was so impressed that I stuck to my guns on granting access that he asked me to take up that position permanently. It was kind of like an episode of “Undercover Boss”. And the rest is history. You can find me at the Pyramid gate in Fractal every Shambhala.
