SMF: What made you want to join the crew?
NI: I had been going to Shambhala for 5 years and, as everyone can relate, Shambhala changed my life in so many ways. The festival has given me so much in personal & spiritual development, exploration and expression that I felt it was time to give back. I wanted to see a different side of the festival, to contribute my energy to making the magic happen and to be a source of guidance for first-time Shambhala goers and help make their experience a little more extra special.
SMF: How did Shambhala change your life?
NI: I remember my first Shambhala, being so in awe of this place, I really felt like I had gone to a different planet. Where else could you be surrounded by this many people who are so genuinely kind, friendly, interesting, approachable, compassionate, supportive, loving, creative, intelligent, present, spiritual, unique and expressive. It showed me what a healthy, thriving community really looks like and how it feels to be a part of it. Shambhala opened my eyes to a whole new world and changed me in so many profound ways; it’s a spiritual journey and so much of my personal and spiritual growth has happened here. Shambhala is a big part of my heart; the experiences, lessons and connections have always stayed with me and helped shape me into the person I am today.
SMF: What does Shambhala mean to you?
NI: Shambhala is a place for self-discovery and self-expression. It’s a place where everyone can feel safe and accepted for being themselves. It’s a place to explore your mind and open your heart, a place to connect with kindred spirits and feed your soul. It’s the weirdest and most wonderful place in the world and I’ve never felt more free and more myself than I’ve felt here.
SMF: What is your favourite Shambhala memory?
NI: Being at Shambhala for so many years has filled my heart & soul with so many happy memories. But what stands out most for me, is that it’s my most favourite place to dance!! Being in the middle of the mountains at stages surrounded by trees and the raddest people with beats & bass. It’s so good, you don’t even have to think about what to do – it all just moves you.
