We love you, we care about you, and we want you to get home safe
That means planning ahead and getting enough rest before you gear up for the long journey home.
Below find our top tips for getting off the farm in one piece:
Take your time
If you’re not in a rush, don’t be overzealous about getting off the farm on Monday.
Part of what makes our festival so special is that it’s a reminder to slow down. The wide-world can wait. Rest up.
Plan a designated driver
Make your mom proud, plan a DD – especially if you plan to leave on Monday.
Ensure your driver is sober and has gotten at least 8 hours of sleep the night before you plan to depart the Salmo River Ranch.
If you have prior obligations, make sure you’re prepared to honour them. There will be delays getting off the farm and we want you to best be able to get home safe and ready to seize the day.
Designate a co-pilot
That’s what friends are for, right? Keeping you awake, navigating and DJing your journey.
Make sure you have a co-pilot who’ll stay awake with your DD, engage with your driver and watch for signs of fatigue.
Expect a heavy police presence on Local Highways.
Be prepared to encounter RCMP roadblocks and plan for delays accordingly.
Please be patient with and kind to the police, they are there to ensure your safety and help get you home safe.
Plan for delays
There will be delays. There will be lots of traffic. There will be police roadblocks. Make sure you’re prepared for them. Plan ahead, ensure you have plenty of water and snacks as it may be warm while you wait.
Make sure your vehicle is Road Safe
If you’re traveling on mountain roads, make sure your vehicle is prepared to do so. Ensure your headlights work, your chassis is sound, you are insured, have proper registration and that your DD has a valid drivers license.
Consider Accommodation On the Road
Consider local hotel/motel/camping options if you have a long drive ahead of you.
If you plan on staying in Nelson, Salmo, or Castlegar be sure to book ahead. Places are usually booked out in advance of the festival.
