CharlestheFirst Artist Interview
This young California-born producer is on the up and up. He graced The Grove stage at #Shambhala2018, sending us into a dreamy trance with his ambient, downtempo beats, fused with deep, melodic, bass.
From the Sierra Nevada mountains, CharlestheFirst draws inspiration for his unique psychedelic style from nature, fitting the organic vibes of The Grove – naturally. If you caught his set this year, you may have witnessed some of his lyrical prowess, between the trippy multi-instrumental layered tracks of drums, flutes and keyboard.
Watch his Artist Interview to hear about the elevated environment of Shambhala, his take on subgenres, and how hip-hop inspired him to begin writing.

“I don’t get a chance to stay and enjoy many festivals these days, but I can say without a doubt that Shambhala is my favorite event to experience in totality. The level of curation at each stage creates all these unique environments to get lost in.” – CharlestheFirst
What were your favourite moments from the festival this year?
Playing at the Grove is such an honor, and my set at Shambhala this past year was one of my all time favorite performances. I had been in a musical rut and that night inspired me so much.
What part has Shambhala Music Festival played in your journey as an artist?
I’ve been to Shambhala the past two years. It allowed me to immerse myself in an environment of newfound experiences that provided me with the inspiration to expand my creative endeavors.
What is your favourite stage?
How does Shambhala compare to other festivals that you’ve played at?
It feels safe. I could explore the grounds forever and not even scratch the surface of the art and community that Shambhala represents. I also really appreciate the openness and accessibility of drug testing and dedication to safe and smart partying.
